Inspired by a legacy of resilience, Sachi Hirayama uses creativity to build bridges and foster a more peaceful future through handcrafted art.
Sachi Hirayama is a peace advocate, artist, and educator based in Darwin, Australia. Inspired by her family’s history as atomic bombing survivors in Nagasaki, Sachi uses creativity to promote healing, cultural understanding, and historical awareness.
Her signature creation—handcrafted origami crane earrings—blends traditional Japanese art with a powerful message. The crane, a symbol of peace and hope, is central to Sachi’s work and honours the legacy of Sadako Sasaki. Each pair of earrings carries a story of resilience, reconciliation, and unity.
Beyond jewellry, Sachi leads workshops, offers guided tours in Japanese at Darwin’s military museums, and shares Darwin’s wartime history with Japanese audiences. Her work is rooted in the belief that creativity and education can build bridges between communities.
Engage, create, and learn with hands-on cultural experiences.
